On March 7, 2025, Captain and well-known sports coach Ahmad Hussein Deeb was executed in broad daylight in the Al-Qusour neighborhood of Baniyas city. He was stopped by an armed group while driving his car, and shot five times directly without any charge or investigation—only because of his athletic appearance and for being Alawite.

The Murder of Sports Coach Ahmad Hussein Deeb

Below is the story as told by a relative of the martyr, Captain Ahmad Hussein Deeb.

Baniyas – Al-Qusur Neighborhood
“My father is the martyr Captain Ahmad Hussein Deeb, a well-known athlete and coach, a kind and respectful man. Everyone attests to his high morals.
On the day of the massacre, he was riding in the car with my uncle. They passed by Beit Al-Hamed, where they were stopped by an armed group and asked to get out of the car.
As soon as they saw my father, they feared his appearance. He had an athletic and strong build, so they decided to take him alone. They told my uncle: ‘Go.’ My uncle left, and my father remained alone with them.
He didn’t even get a chance to explain or tell them that he was a coach… they didn’t give him the opportunity to speak.
They fired five bullets at him… and he was martyred on the spot.
Praise be to God for everything… God’s will and what He wills happens.”

The assassination of Captain Ahmad Hussein Deeb is considered one of the most prominent individual crimes documented within the larger Banyas massacre, which affected many unarmed civilians. The victim was known in sports circles for his good reputation and achievements as a coach. Targeting him without any charge or investigation highlights the brutality of the perpetrators and the selective and random nature that characterized the massacres during that period, where outward affiliation, physical build, or even fame became justifications for killing.
